Teaching Philosophy

I aim to be the type of teacher that I wish I had when I was in grade school. I encourage hands on learning in a safe and comfortable classroom environment where my students and I are engaged in activities and conversations that promote growth in all developmental areas. To form this connection with students I will ensure that they are represented in every aspect of class including family, culture, race, ethnicity, and gender.

I want to create a space that makes learning fun, educational, and inspiring so that the children feel safe and excited to learn rather than nervous to face their future educational careers. To do this, every aspect of a child’s life should be included – family, community, and personality – because when a child sees themselves, they are more likely to form a connection and interest. Also, creating deep connections with themselves and their personal community, as well as others, will help to create empathy and respect as they grow and transition to more active members of society.

We strive to maintain a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning and encourages dialogue. When it comes to teaching young children, we believe play-based approaches are very beneficial to the development of the child in every aspect. When the child experiences high quality curriculum and activities that hit on every developmental domain, the whole child will benefit from that curriculum.
