Electronic Resources Management Unit: E-Resources Access Policy

Library Database Access Policy

Electronic databases that the Library licenses or subscribes to are restricted to Cal Poly Pomona’s authorized users, which include current students, faculty, and staff. These resources are governed by vendor licensing agreements, many of which specifically limit off-campus or remote access to affiliated users only.

Guest users and non-affiliated researchers may access certain online resources using designated public computers available within the University Library building. Access may be limited based on the terms set by each database provider. For specific questions about access or restrictions, please consult with the Research Help Desk during Office Hours.

The Library continues to support access to physical materials for all users in accordance with its circulation policy, which is available at all library locations and online: CPP Library Access Services.

The Library’s licensed electronic databases are available to:

  • Current Cal Poly Pomona students
  • Current faculty and instructors
  • Current staff members
  • Faculty & Staff Emeritus (For emeritus access questions, see the contact on that page.)

Access is governed by vendor licensing agreements. Many resources:

  • Require authenticated access using Bronco credentials
  • Do not permit off-campus access for unaffiliated users

Guest users and visiting researchers may access certain resources on designated public computers within the University Library.
Access may vary depending on the database provider’s terms: Please see Public Computer and Database Access

Cal Poly Pomona Library electronic resources are provided to support research, learning, and academic activities. By using these resources, users agree to:

  • Use systems legally, ethically, and responsibly, in alignment with the Library’s mission
  • Respect license agreements and copyright laws; commercial, systematic downloading is prohibited
  • Safeguard shared resources by not overloading systems or disrupting others
  • Avoid sharing login credentials or attempting to bypass security restrictions
  • Use library access strictly for educational, research, or personal study purposes—not for commercial gain
  • Do not download large volumes of content or harvest data, including but not limited to using bots, automated processes, or excessive downloading from library resources, as this can violate licenses and lead to blocked access.
  • Share login credentials with unauthorized users.
  • Download or print entire journals, books, large datasets, or excessive content.
  • Use bots, spiders, crawlers, scripts, or automated tools to harvest data.
  • Redistribute or resell downloaded or printed library content.
  • Use e-resources for commercial gain or unauthorized enterprise.
  • Attempt to bypass security measures, access controls, or vendor restrictions.
  • Overload systems through mass downloads or printing beyond normal academic use.
  • Begin at the Library homepage to make sure access routes are applied correctly.
  • Use your official BroncoID and password to log in; Duo multi-factor authentication may be required.
  • If you're behind the campus VPN, continue to access resources through the Library site, not directly via external links.
