Quality of Internet Resources

This guide is designed to provide some links to music information on the Internet, however, as is the case with many Internet resources, you should evaluate the quality and reliability of the website you're visiting to determine if the information presented is relevant and valid. Ask yourself:

What person or organization is providing the information?
Is the source considered an expert source or other reliable source?
Is the source trying to sell you something?
Does the source have an agenda or political perspective?
Is any information missing?
Consider the date of last revision or update.

Collection of scores, recordings, manuscripts and other public domain resources.
NewMusic Online Library
Digital database of 50,000+ works including those from 6,000+ composers. Includes digital recordings and scores.
SongFile
Research portal for finding information on titles, songwriters, and publishers for songs registered through the Harry Fox Agency. Songs may also be licensed using the SongFile Licensing Tool.
Electronic Dictionary of Musical Themes
Compilation of MIDI files for study and analysis from The Multimedia Library. Includes nearly 10,000 musical themes from 150+ composers.
Aria Database
Collection of information about operas and arias including translated texts, sound files, scores, etc.
The Metropolitan Opera Archives
Sound, images and texts from the history of the Metropolitan Opera.
Gilbert & Sullivan Archive
Archive of Gilbert & Sullivan operas including clip art, librettos, pictures, scores, song files, articles, etc.

Bass Magazine
A digital publication with daily web and social media posts dedicated to being the leading light on the past, present, and future of bass.
Billboard
Well known American music and entertainment magazine published weekly.
Hollywood Reporter
American online magazine largely focused on the film industry but often covers the entertainment industry as a whole, including music.
Pitchfork
Online American publication known for their music reviews.
Rolling Stone
Well known monthly American magazine publishing articles on music, politics, and popular culture.
Variety
Online entertainment magazine focusing on film, television, music, and entertainment technology.
Wired
American online magazine specifically focused on technological developments and how they impact culture.
