The TPCB Program collaborates with partner and training organizations to promote continuous education and professional training across a broad range of transportation planning subjects. The TPCB Program frequently collaborates with organizations such as the National Highway Institute (NHI) to develop and deliver transportation planning-related training both in-person and online. Training is designed to meet the needs of policy- and decision-makers, transportation officials, professional staff, and FHWA and FTA field staff. Customized training courses are tailored to specific audiences and proficiency levels.

The National Transit Institute, at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, was established under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 to develop, promote, and deliver training and education programs for the public transit industry. Federal highway and transit statutes require, as a condition for spending federal highway or transit funds in urbanized areas, the designation of MPOs, which have responsibility for planning, programming, and coordination of federal highway and transit investments.
