Kanopy

To keep costs down, Kanopy films without instant access are available upon request. Please fill out Kanopy's Request Form to request activation of titles. At this time, because each film costs $150.00 for the calendar year, only current faculty may request access to films that are required for course assignments. Current faculty may request up to 3 films or up to a limit of $500.00.

Classroom Use Policy

Per Kanopy's policy, all Kanopy films may be shown in class as long as no admission is being charged.

Outside Classroom Use/Campus Event Policy

Per Kanopy's policy, only films that have the Public Performance Rights icon next to their running time are permitted to be shown at campus or public events as long as no admission is being charged.

You can locate these films by performing a search and filtering for "Public Performance."

Academic Video Online (AVON)

Classroom Use + Outside Classroom/Campus Event Policy

Per Academic Video Online's policy, films available in Academic Video Online include limited public performance rights. These films may be shown in class as well as on-campus or for in-library public screenings as long as no admission is being charged.

The exceptions are:

  • All National Theatre titles can only be shown in class but not for campus or public events.
  • All Film Platform videos may not be shown in class. Film Platform films on Academic Video Online will appear in two ways:

1.  The film will have Film Platform listed as its publisher.

2. After clicking on the image of a film, the film will be part of the Film Platform Channel with the message "Next on Film Platform Channel."

To request a film from Film Platform for classroom viewing, please Submit a Request at Film Platform's website.  Funding for PPR for classroom viewing is unavailable through the Library.

Docuseek + GOOD DOCS + Global Environmental Justice

Classroom Use

Per Docuseek's policy, Docuseek films, including its collection of GOOD DOCS and Global Environmental Justice films, may be shown in class as long as no admission is being charged. 

Outside Classroom/Campus Event Policy

Docuseek films can be shown at campus events as long as no admission is charged.

Streaming any Docuseek and its subcollections' films online to other institutions or non-CPP-affiliated individuals is not permitted without the express authorization of Docuseek.

Digital Theatre+

Classroom Use + Outside Classroom/Campus Event Policy

Per Digital Theatre+'s policy, content on the Digital Theatre+ platform can be shown in class as the Library's subscription provides institution-wide access.

Films on Digital Theatre+ are permitted to be shown at campus events as long as the organizer and campus does not commercially benefit from the showing.

DVDs

Classroom Use

DVDs are permitted to be shown only in face-to-face classrooms for instruction and educational purposes to students officially enrolled in the class.  Although the DVD may state "Home Use Only," the DVD may be shown in class if the film is related to the course content and curriculum.

For online courses, some or none of the film may be shown in class depending on the film. Please refer to the Media Copyright and Fair Use page for determining how much of the film can be streamed.

Outside Classroom/Campus Event Policy

Event organizers should obtain Public Performance Rights for the films being shown at a campus event with the films' distributors.  Fees related to PPR will vary by film distributor.
