From April 8 to April 12, 2024, Cal Poly Pomona University Library celebrates National Library Week (NLW). During this annual event, we highlight the contributions of libraries, librarians, and library workers. NLW also promotes library use and support. The theme for this year is "ready, set, library." Our events this year are mostly in-person with some hybrid programming.
Want to Learn About Becoming a Library Student Assistant?

As part of our National Library Week events, the University Library will answer this question: What’s it like to work as a library student assistant? Hear from a panel of library staff and current and former students who have worked in the library about how student assistants help with library operations, the hiring process for library student assistants, and the potential professional benefits of working in the library. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions! The event is being held in conjunction with National Library Workers Day, which the American Library Association's Allied Professional Association established in 2003 to recognize the work of library employees.
The event is a hybrid event: It will be held in person at 15-4829 and via Zoom.

Chicana Insurgencies and Transborder Activism

Border Women and the Community of Maclovio Rojas tells the story of the community's struggle to carve out space for survival and thrive in the shadows of the U.S.-Mexico geopolitical border. Near Tijuana, Baja California, the autonomous community of Maclovio Rojoas demonstrates what is possible for urban place-based political movements. More than a community, Maclovio Rojas is a women-led social movement that works for economic and political autonomy to address health, education, housing, nutrition, and security issues. Through a feminist ethnography, Téllez demonstrates the state's neglect in providing social services and local infrastructure. This neglect exacerbates the structural violence endemic to the border region-a continuation of colonial systems of power on the urban, rural, and racialized poor.
Dr. Michelle Téllez, Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Mexican American Studies Department at the University of Arizona. Dr. Téllez co-edited The Chicana M(other)work Anthology: Porque Sin Madres No Hay Revolución, and is the author of Border Women and the Community of Maclovio Rojas: Autonomy in the Spaces of Neoliberal Neglect.

Golden Leaves Author Award

We are pleased to announce that the University Library will hold the Golden Leaves Author Awards recognition ceremony on Friday, April 12 from 11 a.m. – 12 noon via zoom. We will recognize all honorees since 2023 and they are welcome to join the ceremony, along with their family and friends. The event is free, but please register on Tixtree to receive the login information.
Since 1986, the Golden Leaves program has celebrated those members of the Cal Poly Pomona campus community (faculty, staff, students, alumni, and retirees) who have authored or edited a book* in the preceding year. The Golden Leaves program is funded by the University Library, with the generous support of the Wilson Family Memorial Golden Leaves Endowment.
Each year, books published by Cal Poly Pomona authors are on display in the Library during the month of April. The University Library celebrates the Golden Leaves program annually in conjunction with National Library Week.
*Authors must be affiliated with the campus community (includes faculty, staff, students, alumni, and retirees) who have authored or edited a published book within the preceding two years. A book must be (following UNESCO’s book definition) at least 49 pages in length exclusive of cover pages. We accept books in an all-electronic format. Honorable Mention authors should meet all the same requirements for full Golden Leaves honors but have written or co-authored a chapter or essay within a larger published book (i.e., they are not listed as the book’s author or editor, but are listed as contributors to the whole work).

The library club meets on the first Monday of the month; to see the upcoming club meetings, we have it on the main library calendar. There is no membership fee to join!
