In the Fresh Air NPR interview on March 15, 2017, Jordan Peele reveals the films that inspired him to create the horror film Get Out. Through out the film along with the social commentary symbolism are references to classic horror films. In horror films, even some of the ones that inspired Peele, people of color are exploited and often don't survive the end of the film. Speculation comes from that many of the men writing these films were white and did not know how to properly write for people of color.
