1808 (v.1)-1980 (v.39, pt.2)
The Jockey Club was founded in Britain in the 18th century to organize and regulate horse racing. In 1770 James Weatherby was appointed Secretary to the Jockey Club, Keeper of the Match Book and Stakeholder. In 1791, Weatherby published the first volume of the General Stud Book, the original and authoritative register of the Thoroughbred breed.
The General Stud Book was the official registry for British Arabians until the English Arab Horse Society was formed in 1920. Arabians registered in the General Stud Book are included in a special Oriental section. Many British Arabians were double registered in both the Oriental section of the General Stud Book and the Arab Horse Society's.
